I posted last week about keeping your kids busy and learning this summer with crafts. I thought I would post a few kid’s crafts here as examples of what my kids have been up to lately. The first is making a paper plate frisbee!
Tutorial For Paper Plate Frisbee
To get the full tutorial for this paper plate frisbee, head over to Crafts by Amanda and follow her instructions on making your frisbee. She does a great job explaining the entire process, and I am not going to recreate her instructions.
With that being said, you will need paper plates (the cheap kind), packaging tape, and decorations to make your frisbee.
Making Paper Plate Frisbee
Now, even though I’m not recreating the instructions, or sharing a step-by-step tutorial, I did want to share our process of making the frisbees! This is because 1) it’s fun to make other peoples’ craft projects, and 2) I can give my review on how easy it was to make/if it actually worked.
The decorating part was the most fun and will keep the kiddos entertained for a while! We broke out all the markers, crayons, colored pencils, and more and spent a while being creative.
Once both halves were done, all that was left was for Mom to follow the instructions and make the frisbees.
Making the frisbees was super simple because all you needed to do was tape the two plates together, do some trimming and you were done!
Then, it was time to try them out! And THEY WORKED!
Don’t you love it when a tutorial works as promised? The kids will love it too. Plus, this one gets them outside!
Review Of Paper Plate Frisbee
My final review is that this project is one to definitely add to your list of crafty things to do this summer. This is because the supplies needed for the project are super cheap; putting the frisbees together was very simple, and the frisbees actually worked!
So head on over to Crafts by Amanda and make your own paper plate frisbees today!
Tips and Tricks for Paper Plate Frisbee
Now that you’ve seen this fun paper plate frisbee, are you ready to make your own? Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure your project goes as smoothly as possible!
- Create a Coloring Mat – If you scroll back up to the photos of my kids coloring, you will notice that they are coloring their plates on top of paper and cardboard. This is because 1) I didn’t want my table to have marker stains on it, and 2) it allowed the kids to color every edge of the paper plate! If you are looking for some budget-friendly ideas on how to protect your table and create ”coloring mats”, below are a few!
- Tablecloth (you buy a cheap one from Dollar Tree – just make sure it’s heavy-duty enough for the supplies you are using)
- Poster Board
- Foam Board
- Roll of craft paper
- Wrapping paper, you are no longer using
- 12×12 Paper (or that scrapbook paper you bought years ago but now you think it’s ugly)
- Large Trays
- Old cutting mats that you don’t use anymore.
- Use The Supplies You Have – Don’t buy new supplies for this project unless it’s paper plates or packaging tape. This is because what I loved about this project was that it was so forgiving when it came to supplies. We used markers, crayons, and colored pencils, but you could use a variety of supplies, depending on your kids’ age. Below are some additional supplies ideas that I think might be fun to use with the coloring or possibly as a substitute.
- Stickers (if you want to make your own stickers, check out our Summer Stickers or Monster Stickers)
- Stencils
- Paint
- Stamps
- Skip The Staples – As tempting as it might be to put your frisbee together with staples, don’t! Stick with the packaging tape (pun intended) because it creates a better frisbee, and you won’t have to worry about little hands getting poked by the sharp edges of the staples.
