How to Make a Valentine’s Day Vase
If you’ve been around here before, you know I love making crafts with mason jars. They are super versatile, inexpensive, and easy to paint and decorate. If you are looking for more DIY vase ideas, be sure and check out those projects, too.
Supplies Needed
- Smooth sided mason jar (quart size)
- Cricut machine (or adhesive stencil letters)
- Adhesive vinyl (any color, if using a Cricut)
- Transfer tape (if using a Cricut)
- Pink spray paint
- Craft knife
- Silver Paint Pen
Start by watching the video below to see just how to make this mason jar vase for Valentine’s day! Don’t worry if you miss any of the steps. I have step-by-step instructions below including using your Cricut to make the stencil mask.
Be sure to check out the other projects featured in the video at the links below.

Now if you were unable to watch the video above or you missed some of the instructions, here are the steps:
Step 1 – Prep your mason jar
Start with a clean and smooth-sided mason jar. The smooth sides work best for this technique. A mason jar with a raised design on the outside will work for this project, but it may not turn out as well. I also like to use a bit of rubbing alcohol to make sure the glass is really free of any stickiness or oils.
Step 2 – Create and apply stencil mask
Next, we’ll make and apply the stencil masks to the outside of the jar. To make your own letters, open up Cricut Design Space and add letters to your canvas using any font that you like! Measure your jar surface to make sure you cut the letters to fit on one side. Then cut the letters with adhesive vinyl and apply them to the jar using transfer tape. Be sure to really rub the letters onto the glass.
Leave the masks on the jar for the next step. Note: You can use premade stencil letters if you don’t want to make your own with your Cricut.
You can use any words you want. As an example, I added LOVE to the canvas as well. (If you like the font I used for the LOVE, you can find it at Creative Fabrica.)
Step 3 – Paint the jar
With the letters on the glass surface, spray-paint the outside of the jar. Be sure to get around the edges of the jar, too. I found it was best to turn the jar upside down to spray paint to avoid getting paint on the inside. Allow it to dry completely before continuing.
Step 4 – Remove stencil mask
Then, carefully remove the masks with a craft knife. Go slowly to avoid lifting more paint from the surface around the letters.
Step 5 – Outline with a paint pen
To finish your mason jar vase, use a paint pen to outline the letters. This works to embellish vase and it covers up any paint lines that may not be perfect. Allow it to dry completely before adding the flowers and water.
This idea is perfect for your Valentine’s Day decor and only takes minutes to make. Make your own mason jar vase for Valentine’s Day! This project would even work for a gift in a jar if you want to add in something for that someone special!
