How To Make Mini Football Cornhole Game
Making your own football cornhole game is easy and actually really fun! Gather your supplies, and we’ll have this put together in no time.
Supplies Needed To Make Mini Football Cornhole
When I made my mini football cornhole game, I did not use a Cricut machine. However, if I made this mini football cornhole today, I would definitely use a Cricut machine because it would make the process even easier!
I am including the materials I used for the original project along with materials I would use today to make this project with a Cricut machine.
Unfortunately, some of the paints used in this tutorial are no longer available. I linked to alternative paint options in the supply list below.
- DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint, White Wash
- Americana Acrylic Writers White
- Alternative Option: Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint, White
- Americana Acrylic Paint Leaf Green
- Mini cornhole boards (the ones I used are no longer available but there are quite a few options on Amazon)
- Adhesive Vinyl
- Brown Felt
- Painter’s tape
- Something to fill your footballs (corn, buttons, beans, etc)
- Optional: Cricut Supplies – This is for those of you who want to use a Cricut machine to make this project.
Prepping Mini Cornhole Boards
Step 1: Paint Board White
To begin, I painted my boards white. It took a couple of coats to cover the whole board really well.
I like the glossy sheen of the Gloss Enamels paint, but you can use whatever white paint you prefer.
Adding Football Field Details
Step 1: Create Yard Lines
Once the white paint was completely dried and cured, I used a wide painter’s tape to create the yard line markers.
Step 2: Add Vinyl Numbers
Add vinyl numbers to either side of the painter’s tape.
Note: You can do this by hand, or you can cut your vinyl numbers with your Cricut machine in the color you want and then add them after the fact.
Step 3: Paint Board Green
Now we’re going to paint over the entire mini football cornhole board with green paint. This includes over the top of the painter’s tape and the numbers. Apply a few coats to make sure it’s all covered really well.
Step 4: Remove Painters Tape & Numbers
Allow the paint to dry slightly, and then remove the painter’s tape and vinyl numbers. This will leave you with a two-tone football field mini cornhole board.
Note: If you choose to cut the numbers out of vinyl in the final color you want them to be, wait for the paint to dry completely and then using transfer tape apply them to the board on either side of the yard line markers.
How To Make Felt Footballs
Step 1: Cut Out Football From Felt
Cut your football shapes out of felt with scissors.
Note: You can also use your Cricut Maker machine to cut the felt pieces.
Step 2: Add Stitch Lines
On one side of your felt football pieces, use writing paint, like Americana Writer (or Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint), to stitch the football. Repeat this until you have as many footballs as you want.
I made six total football bean bags.
Note: If you don’t want to use writing paint, you can cut the stitching out of HTV and press it onto the felt football shapes.
Step 3: Sew & Stuff Footballs
To create football-shaped bean bags, sew two pieces wrong sides together about 3/4 of the way around and then fill them. You can fill your footballs with corn, beans, or beads.
Once the footballs are filled, hand sew the remainder of the shape closed.
Final Thoughts on Creating Your Own Mini Football Cornhole Game
Can you even believe how easy it was to create our own mini-football cornhole game? I chose to use green and white paint, but you could use any color combination.
This is such a fun project that my family has been playing it nonstop. Kids and adults alike enjoy this game, and it’s perfect for football season or even any parties you’re planning!
FAQs About Mini Football Cornhole
Have questions about making this mini football cornhole? Please leave your question for me in the comments if you don’t see it answered below.
Can I Build My Own Cornhole Base?
Yes, you can! I think buying a premade cornhole game (from Azmzon) is the easiest way to do this project, but you can build your own instead.
Can I Paint This Mini Football Cornhole In Team Colors?
Absolutely! As I mentioned before, you don’t need to paint this football cornhole in green and white. Instead, you could paint yours in the colors of your favorite football team. If you do this, I would recommend putting the lighter of your team’s colors as the ”white” and the darker of your team’s colors as the ”green”. – This is so you can get the best contrast and be able to read the numbers on the cornhole board.
What Cricut Machine Can I Use For This Project?
All of them! The Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore series, Cricut Joy, Cricut Joy Xtra, and Cricut Venture, can all work for this project!
The only thing to keep in mind is that each Cricut machine is different regarding project size capabilities and the materials it can cut. For example, if you want to cut both vinyl and felt, I would recommend going with the Cricut Maker. However, if you are just cutting vinyl and hand-cutting your footballs, then you can use any of the Cricut machines.
Can I Hand Sew These Footballs?
Yes, you can. However, I recommend a sewing machine. This machine allows you to get a tighter stitch, which will help keep your stuffing (corn, beads, etc.) in place.
Could I Buy Pre-Made Footballs?
Yes! If you want to skip making felt footballs, you can buy ”mini footballs party favors” to act as your footballs.
