How to Make These Clothespin Crafts for Valentine’s Day
Now that you have your supplies, you are ready to create some cute Valentine’s Day bugs with your little ones. Just follow the instructions below to use your Cricut machine for this project. If you don’t have a Cricut, keep reading as I have other ideas for ways to make this craft that doesn’t require any machine at all.
- Draw a heart in Cricut Design Space the size you want for your wings.
- Optional: Add a score line down the center of your heart and attach the two objects together. You do not need the score line to fold the hearts but it does help little ones fold these in the right location.
- Add your foil cardstock to a medium grip Cricut mat and cut as many hearts as you will need for your bugs. Remember you will need two of these hearts per clothespin.
- Once cut, remove the hearts from the mat and fold each one in half slightly. You just want to fold it enough to give it some dimension when adding to your project.
- If your tape is wider than your clothespin, trim the glitter tape to size using a pair of scissors. Alternately, you can use glitter vinyl for this portion and cut it to size with your Cricut as well.
- Peel the backing away from the tape and apply to your clothespin. Press down well.
- Add some adhesive to the center of your clothespin and add the hearts with the pointed end towards the clothespin. Hold them in place for a few seconds. I like to use an adhesive tape runner as it is not hot but sticks quickly. You can use any adhesive that you like.
- Add adhesive to the end of the clothespin and put two google eyes into place. Again, hold them a few seconds until the adhesive holds them into place.
- Then just add your Valentine’s Day clothespin bugs to the top of a treat bag!
Want to make these Valentine’s Day clothespin bugs without a Cricut?
What are your options if you don’t have a Cricut machine? Try these ideas:
- Hand cut the hearts. They may a bit wonky but that is part of the fun!
- Use a Sizzix machine and some steel dies to cut the hearts instead.
- Have a paper punch in the shape of a heart? Try using that to make these hearts instead.
However you make them, you are sure to love the way these Valentine’s Day clothespin bugs look when they are one!
Gather your supplies and use them to have a craft day with the kids. I know you will have fun making these cute bugs. Add them to the top of some plain Valentine’s Day treat bags for something extra special! Plus, you can make some more DIY Valentines while you have your Cricut machine out.
