DIY Cutting Board Instructions
Follow these step-by-step instructions on how to make a cutting board shaped like a mason jar…
Step 1: Choose your wood
You’ll need to decide on the type of wood you’d like to use. The different types of wood will impact both the appearance and durability of your cutting board.
You will need one high-quality cutting board from any store or a piece of wood in your home that is suitable for making food. I picked this one up at Walmart, and it was seriously cheap!
Step 2: Trace your design
Take your cutting board and trace out a mason jar shape using either a stencil or a pencil. I traced a large jar plaque that I had at home, but you could also print any shape from the internet.
Step 3: Cut your board
Once you’ve traced the shape, use a scroll saw to cut out the mason jar. Make sure that you don’t cut it too deeply, or else your cutting board won’t be strong enough.
I used my handy BladeRunner from Rockwell. I love that thing y’all!
Step 4: Sand and clean
After cutting the outline of your mason jar cutting board, use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges. You can also use an orbital sander or a sanding tool to go around the edges well.
I used my Dremel with a sanding bit. You really want those edges smooth!
That’s it! Now your mason jar cutting board is good to go for serving up some yummy charcuterie at your next dinner party.
You are now ready to start using your mason jar cutting board in your kitchen. These would also be good for parties, weddings, and more.
How cool is that? Enjoy!
FAQs
If you have questions about making this mason jar cutting board, I have answers for you! Please leave your question for me in the comments if you don’t see it already answered below.
Do I need to seal the cutting board?
Yes! You can seal the cutting board with a food-safe mineral oil. This will help to protect your mason jar from moisture and staining.
It’s best to do this every few months or whenever you notice that it’s looking dry.
What other shapes can I make?
This is the fun part – you can get creative and make any shape that you like! Anything from a rolling pin to a wine glass.
If you don’t want to freehand draw it, just print out a template of whatever shape you’d like and use that as your guide. Have fun with it!
