If you have never made a chess squares recipe, you don’t know what you are missing! I decided I would snap a few pictures the last time I made my version and share them with you all. I have been making these for years and they are the perfect ooey gooey dessert. Plus they are super simple to make. Your entire family will beg for this recipe again and again. You might even here this recipe referred to as gooey butter cake. Yep same thing! A delectable bite of gooey cake that you will want to serve again and again.
Chess Squares Recipe
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1 egg
- 1 stick butter (melted)
Mix the above ingredients and pat into the bottom of a greased 9 x 13 pan.
- 1 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 3 eggs
- 1 pound confectioner’s sugar
Mix until smooth then pour over batter in pan. Bake for 50 – 55 minutes at 300 degrees F. Cool before cutting into squares.
Dig in and enjoy this chess squares recipe with your entire family. This simple recipe turns out moist and delicious. Make variations with different flavors of boxed cake mix as well. I started experimenting with recipes for this one years ago when a local deli started serving them up on the menu. I just knew I had to replicate them at home.
