How To Make Christmas Burlap Table Runner
I love an easy sewing project, especially during the chaos of the holiday season. When there are millions of things on my to-do list, I like having a project I can scratch off as DONE after just a few minutes!
Plus, the colors are so classic that you can reuse this table runner year after year and it will never go out of style.
Supplies Needed To Make Christmas Burlap Table Runner
- Burlap table runner (these have finished edges)
- Plaid ribbon (be sure to NOT get wire-edged)
- Sewing machine and thread
- Tape measure
- Scissors
Step 1: Measure Burlap Table Runner
The first step is to measure the burlap table runner and decide where to place the plaid ribbon. To do this, measure from the outside edge on both sides. You can choose the distance, just be sure to keep it consistent.
Step 2: Sew Ribbon To Burlap
Next, sew down both sides of the ribbon securing it to the burlap table runner.
Table Runner Hack
When you buy a burlap table runner, all you have to do is sew your favorite ribbon to it! That’s why this is one of my favorite Christmas crafts. It takes basically no time at all.
However, if you don’t have a sewing machine, you can attach the ribbon to the burlap with hot glue or superglue. Sewing looks the best, but other methods still work just fine!
Step 3: Trim Ribbon
Then, trim the ribbon to the correct length with scissors on the ends.
That’s it! Add this great Christmas table runner to your home decor.

FAQs About Christmas Burlap Table Runner
Here are a couple of questions that I see readers ask about making this Christmas burlap table runner. If you have a question, please check to see if I’ve already answered it below. Don’t see your question? Leave it for me in the comments!
Can I Adjust The Size Of This Project?
Yes, you can! You can make this table runner as big or as small as you would like.
However, the only thing to keep in mind, is that if you use a longer table runner you will need more ribbon.
Can I Use Wire Edge Ribbon For This Project?
No! Wire edge ribbon will not work for this project.
What Seam Allowance Did You Use For Your Ribbon?
I used a 5/8 seam allowance, but you might need to adjust your seam allowance depending on the width of your ribbon.
Could I Hand Sew The Ribbon To The Table Runner?
You could, but I don’t recommend it. Using a sewing machine is a better option because it makes it easier to add the ribbon to the burlap. Plus, you can complete the project in a shorter amount of time.
I Don’t Have A Sewing Machine, Could I Use Glue Instead?
Yes, you can! As I mentioned above, If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can attach the ribbon to the burlap with hot glue or superglue.

Dear Chic,
I enjoyed my first visit to your cottage. I was lingering at FaveCrats.com and surfed on in to your place.
I am planning to make the plaid table runner and using grosgrain ribbon and muslin (because I have a stash of both (no plaid or burlap). The ribbon (blue) will match my dishes.
My cottage next time, okay?
Thank you for a fun time, Jane
