Please welcome Jen Goode back with an adorable Mother’s Day card that you can make with your Cricut!
Mother’s Day is a special day because it reminds us to stop and take some time to acknowledge and appreciate an irreplaceable person in our lives: mom.
And, as a mom myself, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the fact that I am a mom. It’s a hard, tireless, thankless job that is harder (and more rewarding) than anything else I’ve ever done.
I wouldn’t have it any other way! 🙂
Many moms have a hard time “being celebrated” and showered with lots of pomp and circumstance.
However, I’ve never met a mom who doesn’t appreciate (and treasure!) a homemade gift. Handmade gifts and cards for Mother’s Day are the best!
Today, I’m going to show you how to make a pretty Mother’s Day card using your Cricut.
Making Mother’s Day cards has become a tradition around my house because they’re like making little works of art that you can give as a gift. So grab your pretty craft supplies and let’s craft up some Cricut Mother’s Day cards that mom will love!

How To Make A Mother’s Day Card With Your Cricut
You can make Mother’s Day cards with all kinds of materials, designs, and sentiments. Today, we’re making a simple “I Love You” card with handmade flower bouquet art.
The Cricut machine will draw and cut the design then you can embellish it however you’d like.
Supplies Needed
Here’s what you’ll need to make this craft that will make mom feel special and appreciated.
Use foils, glitter, and other accents to create a personalized piece with sparkle!
- Cricut machine and Cricut Design Space
- Mother’s Day Card Layout
- Printer or your own watercolors to make background art.
- Cardstock
- Adhesive
Optional:
- Gold adhesive foil vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Extra embellishment supplies like glitter or ribbon
Instructions
We’re going to start off with the design.
I’ve created a handful of pretty floral designs you can use that are currently available in Cricut Design Space.
Then, you will set your Cricut to draw the art designs and then you can hand-color the accents. Or alternatively, you can grab a free background watercolor design to download and print. I have a few printable watercolor papers to choose from or learn how to make your own watercolor art paper.
Just follow these steps!
Step 1
Go to the Cricut Design Space canvas I already have set up for you. You can follow the onscreen instructions to draw and cut the design as is. Alternatively, add a pre-colored background to your card design.
Step 2
The quickest way to add pre-colored art is to either create your own and use that paper to create your Cricut project OR print pre-designed papers and use that.
Step 3
Once you have your card pieces created, layer them as shown and adhere in place. I used gold foil to create the words and accent heart and then applied these pieces to the card using transfer tape.
Using cardstock for this would be pretty too!
Step 4
Embellish however you’d like. I used clear glitter nail polish to add a little extra sparkle to the edge of my card front. I love how it turned out!
Tips For Creating A Colored Background
To add the background color to your card, you have 3 different options.
- Use a background art pattern in Cricut Design Space.
- Upload your own art design into Cricut Design Space.
- Print or make your own art design paper and then put that paper on the mat to make your Cricut project.
The card set includes an envelope that you can also create and personalize. Here are more terrific Cricut Mother’s Day card ideas that you can make!
FAQs
Here are a couple of questions that I see readers ask about making these cute Mother’s Day cards with your Cricut. If you have a question, please check to see if it’s already answered below. If it isn’t, leave it in the comments so I can answer it!
Can I use glue to attach all the card pieces together?
Yes, you could. However, I find that using transfer tape is better for a project like this one because:
- It would challenging to do when working with the lettering
- There’s no dry time
- It’s mess-free
- There’s no risk of seeing globs of glue in the design
What can I use instead of cardstock?
I have found that cardstock works the best because it strikes a great balance between stability (not bending too easily) and flexibility (being able to fold the paper into a card shape).
However, if you don’t have cardstock, washi paper might work well since it works for card making and scrapbooking!
