Fall is the season to indulge in anything and everything pumpkin-related! If you enjoy making quick and easy pumpkin crafts, you’ll love these pallet pumpkins. You can turn your wooden pallets into pumpkins in minutes, and you don’t need to use any tools to make the transformation magic happen!
It’s the time of year when I go pumpkin-crazy (in the best way)!
Did you know that you can make pallet pumpkins without any tools? Oh yes, you can! I came up with this idea to create gorgeous rustic pumpkins (which are different from these rustic scrap wood pumpkins) to display on your mantel or even outdoors on your fall front porch.
I only made three, but I want to make so many more. How many pallet pumpkins are too many? If it were up to me, I would say there are never too many pumpkins!
It’s time to make some pumpkins!

Pumpkin Pallet Instructions
The secret to the simplicity of this entire tutorial is using premade wood pallet boxes because that means you don’t have to do any sawing or nailing!
You’re going to love how easy this project is! Just follow these step-by-step instructions and you’ll be all set.
Step 1: Glue Wood Pallets Together
I wanted to make two different sizes of DIY pallet pumpkins, so I started by using wood glue to secure two of the pallet boxes together.
Step 2: Paint Your Pumpkin Pallets
Allow that to dry completely, then begin painting your pumpkins. I used three different shades of orange and very little paint for a rustic look.
You can add more paint if you want a clean, finished look instead.
Step 3: Add Stems, Leaves, And Vines
Once the paint is dry, use hot glue to add driftwood pieces for stems and a few fun leaves. Tie on a few strings of raffia to complete the look.
Then your pallet pumpkins are complete!
Aren’t these pumpkin wood pallets fun? You can add them to your mantel as I have done here.
They also make great additions to your fall porch decor (see notes below on how to make them outdoor-friendly).
I could see using these all around my home in the fall – I am head over heels in love with the way they turned out.

Wooden Pallet Pumpkins FAQs
If you have questions about making pallet wood pumpkins, I have answers for you! Please leave your question for me in the comments if you don’t see it already answered below.
How can I make these DIY pallet pumpkins safe to use outside?
There are a couple of easy ways to do this. First, paint your pallet pumpkins with outdoor paint, which won’t wash off or run when it rains.
The other thing you could do is paint your pallets and then seal them with Mod Podge Outdoor.
How can I personalize my painted wooden pumpkin craft?
There are endless ways to make your wooden pallet pumpkins uniquely yours! Here are some ideas to try:
- Use different shades of orange for the pumpkins
- Make your pumpkins different colors such as orange, white, and even teal
- Paint your driftwood “stems” green
- Add jack-o-lantern faces to your pumpkins
- Stencil subtle designs onto the pumpkins for some visual flair
- And more!
Why aren’t these wooden pumpkins round?
I wanted to create a simple, easy-to-make craft that didn’t require any cutting or special tools. Since I used pallets for these pumpkins, I went with the shapes they already were.
They may not be round like a traditional pumpkin, but I think the square and rectangle shapes add a fun rustic, almost abstract, quality to the final product.
Are you ready to make some pallet pumpkins for your home decor this fall? Remember that you don’t need any special tools, so this craft is super easy and comes together quickly once you have those little pallet boxes!
