DIY Wedding Decorations Instructions
This project is several small projects combined into one big final display of rustic glam wedding decor. Here’s how I brought it all together.
Step 1
We’re going to start by making our “tray.” Strip the framed picture and remove all hardware, etc. Remember, this is becoming a tray, so it will need to sit flat on the table without wobbling.
Step 2
Next, we need to remove the inside image so that we can add that fabulous gold glitter poster board (yep, it looks just as amazing in person!).
Step 3
The frame I settled on is sort of a shadow box because the picture has some 3D elements to it.
Can you guess what I am going to say? We need to remove all of those 3D elements so the posterboard lays flat. I just pulled all of the elements off of the picture.
Step 4
Now use the picture as a template and cut a piece of that fabulous gold glitter poster board to the same size to create the glam base of our wedding decor tray.
Step 5
I used glue dots (available at Dollar General or online) to attach the poster board to the picture.
Step 6
Now reassemble your frame, and you have a fabulous eye-catching tray to add to your rustic glam wedding decor.
Step 7
Now it’s time to tackle the colors on that mason jar tea light holder and make it look rustic glam. Start by disassembling the candle holder.
Step 8
Spray paint the yellow lid with metallic gold spray paint. Then wrap the amazing gold glitter tape around the burlap for a glam look that you will love.
Step 9
Ok, I couldn’t get enough of that amazing gold glitter tape, so I had to use it again. These mason jar string lights were screaming at me from the shelf at Dollar General, but they needed a little glam.
Just wrap the tape around the tops for an extra special touch. These lights will look sparkly and stunning when strung all around your outdoor summer ceremony!
Step 10
Where did those chalkboard label mason jars end up? Simply add a little personalized message (I used “we do”), and they are ready for some flowers.
Step 11
It’s time to pull all our pieces together into a wedding decor display. Reassemble the mason jar tea light holder once the paint on the lid has dried. Then, add a tea light from Dollar General inside for a little romantic glow.
Place all the jars on your tray and hang up the mason jar string lights. These items will create the perfect glam look for a rustic farmhouse wedding!
FAQs
Here are a couple of things that I see readers ask about making DIY wedding decorations. Please check to see if I’ve already answered your question below. If you have a question but don’t see it already answered, go ahead and leave it for me in the comments.
What type of adhesive can I use instead of glue dots?
I love working with glue dots on certain projects because they are mess-free, don’t require drying time, and have good (although not GREAT) hold. And since I found them at Dollar General, they were really affordable!
If you don’t have glue dots or can’t find them for your wedding decor project, you can use hot glue, Krazy glue, or any other fabulous glue that you have. Just be sure to adjust your project working time to account for glue drying.
Can I use the mason jars with chalkboard labels for other purposes?
Yes! They were a perfect fit for our rustic glam wedding decor, but you can actually use these decorations for any occasion. Just change up the chalk writing on the jars to suit any event or party you are hosting.
Think of a 2-word phrase such as “Happy Birthday” or “Congrats Sue” unless you add additional chalk label jars to your decor design. Basically, you can turn this rustic glam wedding decor into rustic glam party decor with the swipe of an eraser (how’s that for multi-purpose?).
Pulling this rustic glam wedding decor together only takes minutes, and purchasing everything from Dollar General is a cost-saving for sure. Throw the budget wedding of your dreams by stalking the new finds at Dollar General.

WOW, those are some awesome finds. Great ideas on the cheap!
Cute ideas!
Love your ideas! I was looking at these items tonight and I almost bought the lights. Do you happen to have an idea of how long the lighted string is? I’e measure my area and I don’t know how many string to buy. The box wasn’t labeled with how many feet long the string is.
I would say 5 – 6 foot long Amanda.
Thank you so much! I love your blog!
