“Ho Ho Ho!” That’s right, it’s almost Christmas time! And, what better way to celebrate than with a DIY Santa cookie plate? These types of plates are so easy to make that you can do it in just a few minutes. All you need is your Cricut machine and this festive Santa cookie plate SVG. The best part is that this Santa cookie plate will be perfect for years to come!
How To Make DIY Santa Cookie Plate
This holiday season is all about celebrating the joy of giving. Whether it’s your kids who are sipping hot chocolate and opening their presents, or you’re sipping eggnog while getting ready for a big family dinner, we know that there’s so much to be thankful for this year.
And, in my home at least, one of those things has been our DIY Santa cookie plate!
I whipped up this festive craft using my Cricut machine and a ‘Cookies for Santa’ SVG file from Cricut Design Space. It was such a fun way to add some cheer to our Christmas table!
Supplies Needed To Make DIY Santa Cookie Plate
- Cricut Machine (Not quite sure which Cricut is for you? Click here to see which one I prefer!)
- Plate
- Permanent Vinyl or Iron-On
- Transfer Tape or Cricut EasyPress
- ‘Cookies for Santa’ SVG File (Here’s a similar one to the one I used.)
Step 1: Open SVG In Cricut Design Space
First, start out by opening the SVG file and size it to fit your plate.
Step 2: Cut Out Pattern
Then, use your Cricut to cut out the pattern on permanent vinyl or iron-on. Either will work on a glass plate! If you choose to use iron-on, be sure to mirror the iron-on before cutting and cut with the shiny side down on the mat.
NOTE: I like the ease of the permanent vinyl and I have successfully washed it in a dishwasher. I have not had luck with the iron-on in the dishwasher, however.
Step 3: Add Pattern To Plate
After you have cut the SVG, apply your design to the plate. You can add the vinyl by using transfer tape or apply the iron-on using the EasyPress.
TIP: Be sure to clean your plate before application. I like to use rubbing alcohol to clean mine.
Now, your Santa cookie plate is ready to be used!
You can use a clear plate and apply your iron-on or vinyl to the back of the plate as well. This helps with any issues with the plate being food-safe. If you do this, mirror if cutting from vinyl, and do not mirror if cutting from iron-on. You just want to do the opposite of what you usually do if putting it on the back of the plate.
Now, enjoy your cute cookies on your Santa cookie plate! Add cookies to the plate and set them out for the jolly one himself!
FAQs About DIY Santa Cookie Plate
If you have questions about this DIY Santa Cookie Plate I have answers for you! Please leave your question for me in the comments if you don’t see it already answered below.
What Cricut Machine Can I Use For This Project?
All of them! The Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore series, Cricut Joy, Cricut Joy Xtra, and Cricut Venture, can all cut SVG files!
The only thing to keep in mind is that each Cricut machine is different in regard to project size capabilities and the materials it can cut. So, depending on what project you have in mind, you might need to resize the SVG file or cut it out in a different material.
Can I Personalize The Santa Cookie Plate?
Absolutely! Using your Cricut machine, you can easily personalize each plate with names, locations, and even other quotes. You can also swap out the colors and use whatever you like. I went with a more traditional red but you can use green, blue, gold- whatever you prefer!
What Kind Of Cookies Are Best To Leave On A Santa Cookie Plate?
There are so many delicious options out there. However, I like to stick to a classic chocolate chip cookie or a Christmas sugar cookie (and a few carrot sticks for the reindeer as a snack).
Can I Make A Mug To Make A ‘Cookies For Santa’ Plate Set?
Yes, you can! I highly recommend skimming through Cricut Design Space and looking for an SVG file you think matches the plate. Then, I would follow these same steps listed above, except you would be applying them to a mug instead of a plate.
