Today I am participating in The Pinterest Challenge. What is that you ask? A group of bloggers gets together every month to actually DO something they pin. They asked me to be a guest this month and I jumped at the opportunity. I pin all the time and {let’s face it} I don’t do many of those projects. I decided to dress up some kitchen towels for my Pinterest Challenge.
The original project I pinned was this one over at A Spoonful of Sugar. I am going to do a little tutorial here but head over to A Spoonful of Sugar to see even more information. I started with flour sack towels, some fabric, and ric rac.
I cut my fabric into about a 4 inch wide strip. I choose ric rac that was contrasting with this fabric. I thought the two looked great together. The ric rac is the “medium” size.
First sew your ric rac to each side of the strip on the RIGHT side of the fabric.
Turn the ric rac under and iron the strip.
I started on one end of my towel. Turn the strip end under and sew across the end.
The sew down both sides near the edge. Stop just short of the other end. Just turn that end under and sew to complete your towel.
They are really very easy and make plain towels GORGEOUS!
You can change up the colors in the fabric and ric rac to match your kitchen and mood. I just thought these colors were fun.
I even hung the towels up for a little photo shoot.
Make a few of these and hang on your oven for a touch of color.
No more plain white towels in my kitchen. I need to find some more fun fabrics to coordinate with these.
