I am a Dollar General Partner and have been compensated for this post, however, all projects and opinions are my own.
Y’all it is time for me to start thinking about first day of school gifts. I don’t know when school starts for you but for us, the time is approaching quickly. So, what do you get the teacher for back to school? Where should you stock up on your school supplies?
Usually, teachers have a list of items they need for the start of the school year. I also have plenty of teacher appreciation gifts you can easily make and gift for a handmade touch.
How to Assemble First Day of School Gifts for Teachers
Supplies for a teacher gift basket:
- A few items from the teacher’s wish list
- Basket
- First day of school gift tags (free printable!)
- Scissors
- White Card Stock
First, what do you get the teacher that has everything? Well, I have a few ideas! First, your teacher probably has a wishlist. You can actually see the school supply list with the Teacher’s List feature on the Dollar General website. Parents can find their child’s supply list by just entering their zip code to find their school. There is often supplies attached to that the teacher is requesting.
You can pick up those supplies at your local Dollar General and add them to a fun basket. Then print our first day of school gift tags by clicking here. I usually print these on white cardstock. Cut them apart and attach to your gift.
The teacher gets her wishlist items plus a cute basket!
Want to take it up a notch? You can add in a few treats for the teacher to the basket as well.
You know everyone loves chocolate!
This chocolate bar is actually extra special. Did you know that you can purchase specially marked items at Dollar General and 100% of the proceeds will go to support the Dollar General Literacy Foundation? They are dedicated to helping individuals learn to read, pass the high school equivalency exam, and even learn English. It is a great cause and one that you can support just by looking for the specially marked items at your local store.
In fact, if you don’t have a ton to spend on first day of school gifts, just a chocolate bar wrapped with one of our gift tags is enough to show the teacher that you care!
What other items can you give to the new teacher?
- lotion
- mugs
- planner
- notebooks
- cookies
- organizing bins
- plants
You can also choose to give a gift card so they can do their own shopping. In fact, a gift card to Dollar General is a great idea because teachers can show their school badge at the register to get a 20% OFF Teacher’s Discount which is perfect for back to school.
Stocking Up for Lunches
While you are at Dollar General for those first day of school gifts, you might as well stock up for school lunches as well!
They have everything you need to pack those healthy lunches including cute lunchboxes that the kids will love.
My personal favorite? We love these sandwich containers! They are the perfect size for a sandwich and they won’t get squished before lunchtime.
Stock Up on School Supplies
Dollar General is also having a Spend $15 Save $5 on school supplies deal including backpacks, lunch kits, folders, glue, pens, pencils, markers and more.
This is great for getting the kids ready for back to school while you are picking up any first day of school gifts for teachers.
So, once you finish your shopping at Dollar General, they will be ready for that first day!
