You can make this garden lighthouse in minutes and add it to your outdoor decor. Light up the night for the rest of summer with this fun DIY project. Add one or more of these fun lights to your garden or flower bed for a simple and easy way to light a path or show off your beautiful work. This one was originally posted over at Crafts Unleashed where I am a paid design team member but I am sharing here in case y’all missed it.
I love spending time in my garden. In the warmer months, you can find me planting herbs and flowers to enjoy for the season.
I also love creating my own fairy gardens. It’s a great way to flex your imagination muscle and add your own unique personality and style.
After creating a few different versions of fairy gardens, I decided they needed a light house, too! Maybe it was a good excuse for another DIY project. Regardless, you will love having this glowing in your garden in the evenings!

- 3 3/4″ Metal Pail
- 2 3/4″ Metal Pail
- 4 oz Glass Jar
- Strong Adhesive (E-6000 or Gorilla Glue will work)
- Pliers
- Assorted Paints
- Moon Lights
- Paint Brushes
Steps to make a garden lighthouse
The traditional way to make this craft is with clay pots but we are going to use these inexpensive metal buckets instead.
You will need to start by removing the metal handle and brackets on the sides of both of the buckets. I found that the use of pliers was the easiest. I just pulled and the bracket came off after a bit.
Glue the two buckets to the mason jar lid with a strong adhesive. Weigh down to hold in place while your glue dries. I allowed mine to dry overnight.
Turn over your garden lighthouse and begin to paint. I added stripes in various beachy colors. You can go with whatever theme and paint colors you like on your version. NOTE: You should allow the paint to dry before painting stripes that touch.
Once the paint has dried, add the moon lights to the inside of the mason jar and screw on the top of your garden lighthouse. This project is ready for your garden!
Let the kids help with this outdoor project that the entire family can use. Light up a path to your door or just a special area of your yard.
Make a garden lighthouse for your yard and enjoy the glow of moon lights in your yard or garden area!

You must have the most active imagination of anybody ever heard of Angie. You are so talented, make the neatest things, too many to enumerate here. Love your mason jar monogrammed jar flag, how ingenious is that. Where does a person find a flag holder?
And your lighthouse, awesome. Where does a person find moon lights? Would love to make for one of our flower beds. Maybe should say flower/weed bed, lol.
I get on your blog only to keep going from one project link to another, love it. In case you had any doubt, really enjoy your blog. Keep on craftin’, have great rest of week.
You can find a flag holder at most department stores in the garden section. They should have one that stakes in the ground. And I get the moon lights from consumercrafts.com. Happy crafting!! Thanks for commenting!
That is such a cute idea Angie! Please come share this at our blog hop. https://www.floydfamilyhomestead.com/
I love the lighthouse. Is the light solar powered please?
The ones I used are not but you can definitely add one to this instead!
Hello Holden,
If I cannot use moon light what would be a good substitute?
thanks
Any battery operated light will work!
Is there a printable version that is not 20 pages?? I do not want to print the entire document.
I don’t have another version for this one. I have been trying to fix posts with another version of printed instructions but I have not done this one.
