As soon as fall comes around, I’m a busy bee creating new seasonal and holiday decor – and displaying it everywhere, from my porch to my mantle and yes, even my table.
During the Halloween season, from pumpkins to ghosts and witches, nearly every inch of my house is covered in Halloween decorations.
I have so much fun creating new Halloween crafts and decorations, and I’m at it again! Today, I have an adorable Halloween table runner for you.
It uses basic crafting supplies that you may already have, and it comes together quickly. You will love the cute dangling spiders on this table decor. Add some fright to your table for Halloween by following along with this tutorial.
How To Make A Halloween Table Runner
My favorite part of this project is the cute spiders that hang down on the sides! They make me smile every time I see them.
Supplies Needed
- Printable spider template
- Burlap table runner (be sure to purchase one with finished edges)
- Black felt
- Googly eyes
- Black baker’s twine
- Chalk
- Scissors
- Hot glue and glue gun
Halloween Table Runner Instructions
This project is so easy that anyone can make it! Just follow these step-by-step directions.
Step 1: Trace Your Spiders
Print the spider template, then cut the spiders out from the paper.
NOTE: There are two different sizes.
You want to trace the spiders onto the black felt and cut some out. Drawing on black felt is not easy with a normal pencil or marker.
PRO TIP: Use chalk instead because it will make a perfect line that you can see clearly!
Step 2: Cut Out Your Spiders
I used three large spiders and three small ones on my Halloween table runner. You can use as many as you would like for your project. Just use scissors to cut them from the black felt.
Step 3: Add Eyes
Use hot glue to add googly eyes to BOTH sides of your black felt spiders. The spiders will spin when on the end of your table runner, so you want to make sure they look cute from both sides.
Step 4: Add Baker’s Twine
Use hot glue to put a loop of baker’s twine on the top of each spider, as shown below.
Step 5: Tie Spiders To Your Halloween Table Runner
Tie the ends of the baker’s twine to the end of your burlap table runner, as shown below. This is why I recommend using a table runner with a finished edge.
Continue across until your entire edge is filled up with adorable spiders.
Add this Halloween table runner to the edge of your table and watch the spiders twirl. Isn’t it fun?
FAQs
If you have questions about making a Halloween table runner with spiders, I have answers for you! Please leave your question for me in the comments if you don’t see it already answered below.
Can I use paper to make spiders instead of felt?
Although you can use black paper (ex: construction paper) to make the spiders, I don’t recommend it. Paper bends and creases easier than felt does, leaving your spiders misshapen.
Do I have to use a burlap table runner?
No. However, it is the best option for your Halloween table runner for two reasons. First, the loosely woven fabric is perfect for tying your spiders onto the edges without ripping the fabric. Second, it gives off that terrific Halloween (and rustic!) vibe.
If you love to decorate for Halloween as much as I do you, this Halloween table runner is for you! This simple craft project will only take a few minutes and will add some fun to your table for Halloween.

Although I hate spiders I love this table runner for Halloween!
So doggoned cute Angie, just might have to try my hand at some of those spiders, whether on table runner or? heh heh heh. Not really doing any Halloween decorating but for Fall since we don’t have any kids come trick or treating since we moved here in 2006. It’s just Mr. Furry Kidz and I and our critters.
Have been making few things for best friends grandson who is autistic. Dressed up a faux pumpkin for her house. She lives in Tucson and grandson in Phoenix.
Should have hung my sheets out but weather is being very unpredictable, don’t feel like fighting wind either.
When I say wind, not kidding, like tornado out here.
Enjoy first Fall weekend of year
