How To Make Hot Chocolate In A Jar Gift
Hot chocolate in a jar can be an inexpensive and easy gift idea. I dressed up a jar like Rudolph for an adorable gift that anyone would love. Plus, you can get everything you need at the dollar store. You have to love that!
I am actually joining up with a group of ladies today to bring you holiday ideas from the dollar store, so don't miss those links at the bottom of this post!
Supplies Needed To Make Hot Chocolate In A Jar Gift
- Jar
- Google eyes
- Red pom pom
- Candy canes
- Ribbon
- Gift tag
- Pen
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Hot chocolate mix (or make your own)
- Small marshmallows (optional)

Step 1: Hot Glue Candy Canes To Jar
Start by securing the candy canes to the back of your jar to look like antlers on your final project. I secured mine with a bit of hot glue.

Step 2: Hot Glue Eyes & Nose To Jar
Then flip your jar over and add the eyes and nose with hot glue.

Step 3: Fill The Jar With Hot Chocolate
Fill the jar with your favorite hot chocolate mix or a homemade recipe. You can also add marshmallows if you would like. Then write out a gift tag with instructions on how to use the mix.

Step 4: Tie Gift Tag Around Jar
Tie the gift tag around your jar, and your gift is ready for giving!

Make a bunch of these and also keep them on hand for any guests that may drop by. They will love this little Rudolph and his contents!

Hot chocolate in a jar makes a great gift idea, but when it is this cute…it is even better!

Tips and Tricks for Hot Chocolate In A Jar Gift
Now that you’ve seen this hot chocolate in a jar gift, are you ready to make your own? Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure your project goes as smoothly as possible!
- Don't Adjust The Size Of The Jar – Usually, I say you can adjust the size jar on these projects. However, for this one, I don't recommend it. This is because, to get that cute reindeer look, a smaller jar works better.
- Use Store-Bought Hot Chocolate – If you don't have time to make your own hot chocolate, use store-bought instead! By going this route, you can pick the gift recipient's favorite brand or favorite flavor of hot chocolate.
- Pick Your Favorite Candy Canes – Again, like the hot chocolate, you have options when it comes to candy canes. If you don't want to use peppermint, you can use your favorite flavor instead.
- Use Hot Glue – For this project, I would definitely use hot glue and not another type of glue. This is because hot glue dries fast, and you will be able to create this project very quickly.

OMG this is adorable Angie! I’m saving this idea to make with my grandkids.
So cute! What a great idea to keep them on hand for holiday gifts!
This would be such a fun teacher or neighbor gift.. and using the candy canes as antlers is super cute!
These are precious and so clever!! What size mason jar did you use? I haven’t done many crafty projects before, so maybe this is obvious, are all mason jars similar or does brand matter? If so, what brand do you use/recommend?
Thanks!
They were jars I picked up at the dollar store. I would say just about any size would work. There is a huge variety of sizes you can find for projects like this. I would head to a dollar store and see what you can find to keep costs low!
Adorable!
