Turn a case of mason jars into an advent calendar! Your kids will love counting down the days until Christmas and getting a small treat on each day. All you need is a case of small mason jars, stickers, and labels to get started!
This craft is so quick, easy, and made in just minutes. A case of mason jars is the perfect base for an advent calendar because they come a dozen to a box. Use the methods below to decorate the outside of the jars and the base of the box in minutes. Don’t forget to pick up small treats that will fit inside the jars to delight your kids each day.

How to Make a Mason Jar Advent Calendar
Items needed to make your own mason jar advent calendar:
- Case of jelly jars
- Glitter number stickers
- Kraft paper labels
- Gold Duck Tape
- Small treats and gifts that gift inside of jars
Add a kraft paper label to each jar lid and put on a number sticker (or stickers) to indicate the days 1 through 12. Then you can just add in your small treats to the jars and top with the mason jar lids.
If you are wondering what to stuff inside the jars, here are a few ideas for daily treats:
- Candy
- Small toys
- Jewelry
- Cookies
- Lip balm
- Fruit snacks
- Mini flashlight
- Christmas ornaments
- and more!
Just try to think of things that your kids will love and that are small enough to fit in a mason jar. I put a treat for each kid in one jar for the day.
Then just use the gold Duck tape to cover the outside of the mason jar case box to pretty it up a bit. This is one super simple advent calendar that will only take you minutes to pull together. You can even get the kids involved to add more decorations to the outside of the box.

that is a brilliant advent idea, I love the idea of a little something everyday for the kids, just need to find some small treats – that aren’t necessarily sweets to fill them up!
Advent calendars are always so much fun! I never would have thought to use mason jars for one, complete with the box to keep them together – great idea! I love the glitter numbers too.
I am co-hosting the #HomeMattersParty link party this month and would love to have you stop by for a visit. The current party closes tonight but another one will be opening on Friday. http://alaynascreations.co/2015/11/06/home-matters-linky-party-62/
Love this idea, as it moves away form the chocolate and sweet treats. Of course you can always throw them in as well. But with a toddler, I think this is perfect 🙂

This is such a cute idea! I bet it would be fun to do with friends as adults, too — and mason jars are just the perfect size for small gifts. I am totally going to do this, next year if not this year!
What a delightful and clever idea!! And so super easy to do. I’ve gotta get me some gold duct tape!
