A DIY fairy garden is the perfect spring craft. This one is actually great indoors or even on the porch. The addition of a solar powered light makes it perfect for lighting up those warm spring nights.
DIY Fairy Garden
I love my fairy gardens! And this one is perfect for adding to your back porch along with your other spring decor.
If you are looking for other fairy garden decor, try this mason jar fairy house planter, a terrarium in a jar, a fairy mushroom wreath, or a fairy garden planter with a pool!

How To Make A DIY Fairy Garden In A Jar
Step 1: Glue Miniatures Inside Jar
Start by adding the mini fairy door to the back of your jar and surrounding it with moss. Use hot glue to put everything into place. I also added a white picket fence around my jar. Just trim the fence to size with scissors. Let your imagination go wild when creating your mini fairy garden. Pick up miniatures you love and personalize this project.
Step 2: Add Miniatures To Wood Slice
To the center of the wood slice, add some moss and a few more miniatures. In my case, this meant that little turtle and his flocked gnome friend. Just be sure to keep everything where the mason jar will cover it when added.
Step 3: Screw On Solar Powered Mason Jar Lid
Screw on a solar-powered mason jar lid and add the jar to the wood slice. Your project is ready for display around your home!
What will you add to the inside of your very own fairy garden? I can see adding a variety of fun miniatures. You could also let the kids help with this project. They will love picking out some pieces and adding them to the inside of a cute jar!
FAQs About DIY Fairy Garden
Here are the answers to some common questions I often get about this project.
Where Can I Buy Open-Bottom Mason Jars?
You can buy open-bottom mason jars online!
I bought mine from Amazon, and I think online (in this case) is the best to go because you are guaranteed to find one (compared to in-store shopping).
Can I Use A Cloche Instead Of An Open Bottom Mason Jar?
You can, but you will not be able to use the Solar power mason jar lid.
Where Can I Buy Fairy Miniatures?
You can buy fairy miniatures at any craft store or online!
If you are at the craft store, you will want to look in their miniature or floral/garden sections. If you are making this DIY fairy garden around spring or summertime, the fairy miniatures might be displayed more prominently in the store.
Also, if you want to make this craft more budget-friendly, you can find fairy miniatures (and even moss) at Dollar Tree!
Does The Log Slice Need To Be A Certain Size?
Yes!
Depending on the size of the open-bottom mason jar (or cloche) you are using, you will want your log slice to be at least 1/2 inch – 1 1/2 inches bigger in diameter. For example, if you scroll back up to the photos, you will see that I have a nice ”wood border” around my open-bottom mason jar.
However, in regards to size, you don’t have to have a log slice that is as thick as the one I chose. You can go thinner. The most important thing to remember is the diameter.
Do I Need A Specific Glue Gun For This Project?
No! You can use whatever glue gun you have on hand.
With that being said, I do think a detail point glue gun is ideal for this project because it can help you glue down all the small miniatures without needing a ton of glue. If you want to learn more about glue guns and are looking for some helpful tips for using them, check out the resources below!
