Making your own Halloween decor is easy! If you want a little less spook and a lot more cute, make this easy monster wreath for your door (or wall!). It’s a simple project that comes together in minutes.
I’ve found that people tend to fall into one of two camps regarding Halloween decorations. They either want ultra-creepy decor that delivers that fright vibe. Or they want cute decorations that won’t scare young kiddos.
Although I tend to balance the two, I usually lean more toward cute than fright, like with this Halloween Candy Bucket. My Halloween Tree and DIY Ghost in a Jar crafts are about as creepy as I’ll go because there are kids in the house.
And today, I’m going all the way with Team Cute by making a fun monster wreath. I am head over heels for those overlapping giant google eyes!
You can make this monster wreath for Halloween in about 10 minutes, and it’s a great addition to your Halloween Decor.
How To Make A Monster Wreath
A few simple supplies and about 10 minutes are all you need to create a piece of Halloween decor you’ll love to display year after year. Here’s everything you need to know to make your own monster wreath.
Supplies Needed
Gather up these items:
- Styrofoam Wreath Form
- Feather Boa (3 or 4 required) – I used purple, but you can use ANY color
- Giant 6-inch Googly Eyes
- Hot Glue and Glue Gun – I recommend using a low-temperature glue gun when using foam products
Monster Wreath Instructions
It’s time for the fun to begin! Just follow along with these step-by-step instructions.
Step 1: Cover The Wreath Frame
Wrap the feather boas around the wreath form and secure it with hot glue. I used three, and it was JUST enough to get the right amount of coverage so the foam didn’t peek through.
If you like a fuller wreath, go ahead and pick up four boas for this project.
TIP: Use low-temperature hot glue to keep the foam from melting when you apply the glue.
Step 2: Add Googly Eyes
Next, use hot glue to add the large googly eyes to the center of the wreath. Secure them on both sides of the wreath and to each other in the middle.
Your monster wreath is ready to hang on your door! I told you this was one quick and easy wreath project that is perfect for Halloween.
FAQs
If you have questions about this monster wreath project, I’ve got the answers you seek! Please leave any questions you don’t see already answered in the comments.
Can I display this monster wreath outside?
Unfortunately, this Halloween wreath is not an outdoor wreath. Exposure to moisture, such as rain or snow, will ruin it. However, you could display it on your front door if you have a storm door that would protect it.
I prefer to display this wreath indoors and think it looks amazing in the hallway when I put one on every bedroom door!
Can I use a different type of glue to make this project?
Although almost any type of glue would work to create this monster wreath, I find that hot glue is the best option for projects like this one. It sets quickly, so you don’t have to sit there and hold it for ages while it dries. Plus, it maintains a great hold and is more affordable than other strong glue options.
It is, however, important to remember to use low-temperature hot glue on this project to prevent melting your foam wreath frame!

There is so much that can be done with this adorable yet scary wreath…add a red tongue, crazy hat, dangley arms or legs or BOTH! Love this and it’s so kid friendly! Great idea!! And can be used for many other holidays as well!
I went to Dollar Tree today, grabbed the googly eyes and the wreath holder. They didn’t have purple yarn, so I grabbed two purple and black tinsel garlands and I wove the garlands around the wreath wire. It looks okay. I haven’t glued the googly eyes to the tinsel yet. I will next month, in time for Halloween.
YAY! So glad you made one!
