Spend some quality time with your kids and create this easy fortune teller craft, just for you! All moms want a break, a kiss on the cheek, their kids to say something nice to them, you know the typical wish list. With this easy printable, mom can have it all for Mother’s Day!
My Mother’s Day Fortune Teller (or Cootie Catcher) is full of great things to do on the inside that will make any mom smile. You can also print our Father’s Day fortune teller for dad!
Oh, the nostalgia of this post! I remember cootie catchers when my kids were little. They are the same thing as fortune tellers, where a piece of paper is folded in such a way that can be moved back and forth while counting out a number or spelling out a word. It’s great fun for kids, and they come up with all sorts of funny “fortunes” for their friends.
I thought it would be a great idea to turn something that kids already know and love into a gift for moms everywhere.
“Hug your mom!” and “Help your mom in the kitchen.” are just a few of the options on this adorable craft. Kids will love the mystery of it and mom wins – regardless of the outcome! This is THE printable that everyone needs to print for their children.
How to Make a Fortune Teller
This adorable craft is super easy to make. There’s zero glue, glitter, or clean-up. All you need is a printer and a pair of scissors.
For this version of the cootie catcher, the kids pick a flower color then move it back and forth while spelling the color. Then, mom picks a number and again goes back and forth but this time while counting. Pick another number and lift the flap to read what is inside. Then mom gets to collect her “gift” from the little ones.

Steps to make a fortune teller:
- Print the design.
- Then, cut around the outside of the design.
- Fold in half and in half again
- Unfold the design, then turn it over so the top is blank, and fold each corner into the middle. Then, turn over and repeat.
- Now, turn the paper over so you can see the pictures. Slide your thumb and your finger behind 2 of the pictures (under the folds) and press together so they bend round and touch.
- Turn over and repeat with the thumb and finger of the other hand for the other two pictures. All the pictures should now be at the front with centers touching and you are ready to use your cootie catcher!
