While some people decorate for the holidays the exact same way every year, I enjoy letting the creative juices flow. Each year, I do something different, and I love using outdoor Halloween decor to make a super spooky entry for any trick-or-treater.
Your front porch is the first thing guests will see. So, whether you want to make a mummy ghost or a scary Halloween wreath, your outdoor Halloween decorations need to make a spooky impression (without breaking the budget)!
How To Make Simple Outdoor Halloween Decorations
Did you know you can get all your outdoor Halloween decor supplies at Dollar General? I’m showing you what to get and how to make your front entry look like mine.
This year, these fun ideas can make your front porch look spooky enough to scare the little goblins!
Supplies Needed To Make Simple Outdoor Halloween Decorations
I stopped by the amazing Halloween section at Dollar General and picked up my supplies.
To make my front entry look spooktastic, I grabbed:
- Spiderweb (one package will be enough)
- Hanging ghosts
- Creepy cloth decoration (2 packages)
- Beware tape
- Suction cups with hooks (I needed these to hang the decor on the windows)
Plus, you’ll need a few other supplies to create our Halloween horror doormat.
How To Make Halloween Horror Doormat
Remember that plain color rug I asked you to purchase? It’s time to use it to make a Halloween horror doormat.
Step 1: Paint Bloddy Hands On The Rug
I just used a sponge paintbrush and started applying paint in a hand-like shape. I used my hand as a template but did not apply the paint to my hand.
TIP: To get that hand shape, I would hold it a few inches above the rug to get an idea of the size and placement of the fingers.
Step 2: Paint Bloody Feet On The Rug
After painting two hands, I painted two feet. Like I did with my hands, I used my feet to judge size and placement.
Step 3: Create Blood Splatters
Now, if someone is gory enough to leave bloody hands and footprints on your rug, they are going to make a mess as well! Start splattering that paint everywhere on the mat to replicate splattered blood.
Allow the entire thing to dry, and it is ready for your front door!
How To Use Outdoor Halloween Door Decor
Now that the front door mat is complete, it’s time to prepare the rest of the door. Start with the spider web and spread it out to cover the door.
TIP: The more you pull the web apart, the better it will look.
Cut off any excess when you get to the bottom of the door. It’s super fun to work with, so save your leftovers for other areas in your home!
Prepare the ghosts by stuffing them with newspapers. Wrap and hang them with the included twist ties. I just added them randomly to the door.
How To Complete Your Design
Finally, I used the creepy cloths on my side lights and secured them using suction cups with hooks. I wrapped the Beware tape around the milk cans that stay on our porch year round.
That bloody doormat brings together the entire design and creates a spooky front entry that will catch everyone’s attention!
Making your own outdoor Halloween decor is simple and affordable. Those little people knocking on your door this year will be enthralled with your decorations!
