Are you ready to make some DIY paper bows to add to those gifts? These will make the gifts under your tree so special! Jen Goode is back again this month with this cute Cricut project idea.
Whether you’re wrapping gifts or embellishing projects, making your own mini paper bows is a great way to personalize a project. With a Cricut machine and an easy to use cut file pattern, you can create your own little bows in minutes!
Make Your Own Mini Paper Bows with Your Cricut
To make this DIY bow, you can use any variety of materials and colors you’d like. However, today I’m using the Print-and-cut function within Cricut Design Space along with printable patterns. You can change up the patterns to whichever you like best. And, you can even adjust how the pattern looks within DS by adjusting the settings.
Materials needed:
- Cricut Machine and Cricut Design Space
- Pillow Box and Bow SVG cut file by Jen Goode Download here
- Paper or cardstock
- Adhesive
Note: I used standard printer paper and hot glue for this bow. Use whatever paper and adhesive you prefer.
How to Make Bows from Paper
Assembling the bow might look a little tricky, but after you do it once, it gets much easier!
Download the bow cut file and upload it to your Cricut Access account. Resize the design so the bow shape is the width you’d like your final bow. For these tiny bows, I set the final width of the bow to just about 2″. You can see the size by looking at the bow-shaped piece in the cut file. This piece is the base or back piece of the final bow.
Cut the bow from regular paper. You can see more about using the pattern feature in Cricut Design Space below if you want to add a design to your bow shape.
To assemble the bow, you’ll gently fold, without creasing, each of the oval cuts and glue circle ends together.
Then attach the 4 loops to create a double bow. Add the center “faux knot” by wrapping it around the double bow shape. Glue to this completed set to the bow-shaped back-piece. I used a small wood stick to help press pieces together while the hot glue cooled.
Apply the bow to whatever project you want to accent. I decorated a little glitter ornament to add that extra special touch.
How to use printable patterns in Cricut Design Space
You can easily set your cut designs to print with a pattern in CDS. Simply set the shape to “fill” and then use the pull-down menu to choose “color” or “pattern”. If you select a pattern, you will be shown a menu of patterns to choose from.
Within the pattern view, there is a link to “edit”. Here you can adjust the size and orientation of the pattern you want to print.
The bows in my project example are all printed using some of my own patterns within Cricut Design Space.
Pick your own favorite patterns or use the fun plaids I’ve used. I hope you have fun making all the paper bows!
Be sure to use this same technique for your holiday crafts or to decorate your gifts this season. You will love how versatile these paper bows are and how easy they are to make!

Thank you! This is so cute. Your instructions and pictures are fantastic! When you do the printed pattern does the Cricut draw those or is it a print and cut?
It is print then cut.
