I am making some cute DIY Halloween decorations that were actually inspired by a home decor catalog. This is another craft you can complete in 15 minutes or less (not including dry time). That dry time statement is important for this one because we are going to break out the spray paint. You too can make a DIY skull vase in just minutes. They are so easy that I went ahead and made a set of three. This one is very simple so let’s get started.

Cute DIY Halloween Decorations
Starting with simple things you might have around your home and then adding on some craft supplies makes for some inexpensive DIY as well. This one actually uses a thrift store find so it is really budget-friendly and turns out so cute!
Supplies needed:
- Milk bottles (I found mine at the thrift store for 50 cents each but you can get something similar at your local craft store or buy them here.)
- White spray paint (this brand works great)
- Craft foam (color does not matter as we will be painting it)
- Craft knife
- Skull image (try the image from here)
- Hot glue and a glue gun
How to Make a DIY Skull Vase
Paint the bottles white with the spray paint and set them aside to dry. You will want to make sure to clean the glass well before painting. I like to use rubbing alcohol to get a clean surface then paint.
Now we need a skull. Take craft foam and any skull image you wish. The skull, eyes, and nose should be cut from the foam. The teeth, however, should just be scored with your craft knife and not cut all the way through. You should have something that looks like the image below when you are done.
Now glue those skulls on your bottles using a little hot glue or any other glue you have on hand.
Now spray paint them…many times! The foam actually absorbs the paint so you will have to do multiple coats. Good thing that spray paint is fast and I don’t have to count dry time in my 15-minute crafts!
I love how they are scary yet elegant enough to display in my home. They remind me of poison bottles you see on old television shows.
These cute DIY Halloween decorations are perfect for a mantel or even a centerpiece on a table. Add a few spooky decorations around them and you have something that adds a little spook but is gorgeous as well!
Please note that it took me about 5 coats to cover up the color of the foam. You will also perhaps see the foam break down a bit from the spray paint. That is okay! It adds to the spooky look of this Halloween craft.
Pick up some bottles from your thrift store and make something spooky today. You are going to love how a DIY skull vase looks in your home! Plus simple and cute DIY Halloween decorations are a great way to celebrate the season.

Hi, Angie
These look so much better then the barn ones. Great for halloween.

Sheer genius!
Love this easy knock-off- and I think you could use the Starbucks Frappachino bottles if you needed to. I might add a wash of grey paint over the face to give it some more texture, too. Thanks for the great idea!
You’re so smart! Too cute!
Love them, Angie! That ‘before’ pic of the bottles: scary ugly. After: gorgeously scary!
These are SO darn cute, Angie!!! 🙂
Love these – that’s using your head (I mean skull)!
Kelly
I have a bunch of extra glass bottles and I will definitely be making these skulls ASAP! Thanks for the great idea. I will use them all year, we love spooky stuff in my house!
THis is such a cute idea. I’ love it. I am featuring it at somedaycrafts.blogspot.com
Love these! Great job!
These are way cool! I was wondering what you used for the skulls. Never would have guessed foam.
