How To Make DIY Stacked Pumpkins
These DIY stacked pumpkins are so simple to make and can easily be customized to fit any fall decor! I chose to go with metallic paint and white vinyl, but you can select any paint color and vinyl color that you like!
Supplies Needed To Make DIY Stacked Pumpkin Planter
- Plastic pumpkins (4)
- Spray paint in the color of your choice
- Outdoor vinyl in white
- Cricut machine (see which is my favorite here)
- Scissors
- Outdoor adhesive
- Cricut cut file
- Rocks
- Dirt
- Mums or other flowers
Step 1: Spray Paint Plastic Pumpkins
Start by spray painting your plastic pumpkins in any color. Cover the entire pumpkin with a coat or two of spray paint then allow it to dry completely.
Step 2: Vinyl Letters
In the meantime, you can cut your letters from vinyl using your Cricut. You can access the file by visiting my Cricut Design Space profile and clicking on the “Fall Pumpkin Stacked Planter” project.
Step 3: Cut Handles Off From Pumpkins
Once the pumpkins are dry, use scissors to cut the handles.
Step 4: Add Rocks To Pumpkin
Place rocks in the bottom two pumpkins.
Step 5: Glue Pumpkins Together
Stack pumpkins using clear adhesive between each one. Continue for all for pumpkins.
Allow to dry completely.
Step 6: Add Letters To DIY Stacked Pumpkins
Stick vinyl letters to the front of your pumpkin planter to spell out the word Fall.
Step 7: Add Dirt & Flowers
Add dirt and flowers to the top pumpkin, and you’re ready to put it on your fall front porch!
I love adding mums to mine as they are the perfect fall flower, but you can add whatever you like to your version.
So, will you make a DIY stacked pumpkin planter for your home this fall? Don’t you think it will look amazing on your porch? Mine is next to my back door. I might have to make a second version for the front door as well. This project is so easy and inexpensive that I can create as many as I want!
They would also be a great gift idea for someone who loves gardening, and all things fall. A fall planter is a perfect addition to any porch.
FAQs About DIY Stacked Pumpkins
If you have questions about these DIY stacked pumpkins, I have answers! If you don’t see your question answered below, please leave it in the comments.
Where Did You Get Your Plastic Pumpkins?
I got my plastic pumpkins from a big box store, but you can also purchase them online.
Can You Cut The Handles Off Before You Paint The Pumpkins?
You could, but I don’t recommend it. The handle can help you rotate the pumpkin while you are spray painting it, and it makes transferring the pumpkin to another surface easier while the paint is drying.
Can I Use A Hot Glue Gun For This Project?
You could, but I don’t recommend it. You want the project to withstand weather and the weight of the plant on top.
What Cricut Machine Can I Use For This Project?
All of them! The Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore series, Cricut Joy, Cricut Joy Xtra, and Cricut Venture can all cut vinyl!
The only thing to remember is that each Cricut machine is different regarding project size capabilities and the materials it can cut. So, depending on your project, you might need to resize the design or cut it out in a different material.
