Decorative Mason Jar Lids
Do you have a lot of small toys or random objects that need to be organized? As we all know, mason jars are perfect for nearly anything. After some thought, I decided to get crafty and repurpose some old mason jars I had lying around the house.
This superhero toy storage jar is cost-effective, easy, and fun to make. All you need are just a few basic materials to transform simple mason jars into organized storage containers.
Supplies Needed For Decorative Mason Jar Lids
- Mason Jars and lids
- Super hero toys
- Hot glue gun with glue sticks
- Spray paint – Use any colored spray paint you prefer!
How To Make Decorative Mason Jar Lids
These toy storage jars are so easy to make! You will love this idea so much that you may even use the jars for organizing other areas of the house. Instead of using superhero figures, pick out your favorite toy animal or another figurine!
Step 1: Secure The Lid Inside The Jar Band
First, use hot glue to secure the lid inside the band of the jar tops.
Step 2: Glue Superheroes To Jar Lid
Next, use hot glue to add the superheroes to the centers of each lid.
Step 3: Spray Paint Jar Lid
Spray paint each lid in a different color. It took several coats of spray paint to get the look you see below. Allow the figures to dry completely before handling.
Step 4: Fill Jars
Finally, add toys to the wide-mouth mason jar and then screw on the superhero tops.
How To Use Decorative Mason Jar Lids
You can use these jars to store legos, crayons, buttons, blocks, small toys, cars, leaves, sticks, or anything else you can think of! If you’re using these jars for something besides toys, you can use these mason jars to store food, utensils, body products, desk items, etc.
FAQs About Decorative Mason Jar Lids
If you have questions about these decorative mason jar lids, I have answers for you! Please leave your question for me in the comments if you don’t see it already answered below.
What Size Mason Jars Did You Use For This Project?
I used large jars (aka pint-size jars) so we could fit more objects in them! However, any size jars will work for this project.
When picking a jar size, you might want to think about the objects (or the amount of objects) you want to store in the jar. Then pick the jar size accordingly.
Where Did You Get Your Superhero Figures?
I got my superhero figures from my local Dollar Store.
When making your own decorative mason jar lids, I highly recommend that you check out your local Dollar Store. This is because I have seen a variety of characters like Disney, Hello Kitty, Paw Patrol, Sesame Street, etc. in the toy section.
Now if you can’t find superhero figures at your Dollar Store, you can always buy them online.
What Other Figures Could I Use For This Project?
If you don’t want to use superhero figures in this project, you could use the following instead:
- Animal Figures
- Garden Fairy Miniatures (like gnomes)
- Lego Figures
- Small Toys
- Figures From Mystery Bags or Boxes
- Toy Cars, Planes, etc.
Can I Use Acrylic Paint Instead Of Spray Paint For This Project?
You can, but I don’t recommend it. This is because if you use acrylic paint for this project you will be painting forever to build up the layers.
So, to make this project as fast (and as fun) as possible, stick to spray paint. – Trust me, you will be glad you did!
Do You Have A Spray Paint Brand That You Can Recommend?
There are so many great spray paint brands on the market! You really can’t go wrong with any of them, but if you are looking for an affordable brand that offers a wide range of color options, I would go with Krylon.
Can I Seal The Spray Paint?
Absolutely! I decided not to seal the spray paint, but you totally can!

you are one smart girl! LOVE these so much, Angie!!!
These are adorable Angie!! Love them.
Love these jars, Angie! Cute organization gets me every time!
They would be fantastic for a party table to fill with treats. Such a great idea.
Cute, cute, cute! Great idea and I wonder if my boys would put their toys away better with this. I loved seeing everyone’s posts, mine goes up tomorrow.
Those are so cute Angie, makes we wish I had little boys to make things for. Not anymore, darn it, even grandsons are way past that.
Wonder if people would want to buy the jars for their kids? Something to think about. Would it be a good idea to maybe spray with some kind of sealer so paint doesn’t flake off figures after paint cures? Just wondering. Adorable project. Happy days
