I am going to start with the simplest of all of the ideas. A plain index card folded in half is the perfect size for marking the seats at any dinner party. Here I added a strip of glitter tape to the front and then just added the name. So simple! Pick a decorative tape that you love and that will match your tablescape.
You can also clip on a chalkboard to the edge of each plate. Buy some chalkboard clothespins then just write on each name. One tip is to use a chalk marker to make it easier to write on the small surface and so the chalk will not wipe off easily.
Use wood letters that have been stained as place cards for your Thanksgiving meal. Here we added a hole and a gold string to the letter so it can be taken home and used as a Christmas ornament after the holiday.
A paper pumpkin can become a place card in just minutes. I cut two pumpkin shapes from card stock then slit each one. Slit one from the top and stop a little over half way. Slit one from the bottom and again go a little over half way. You can then put the two slits together to made a three dimensional place card on a budget. A tied on a wire “stem” then add a decorative tape flag to write on a name. You can also try this tutorial for making a paper pumpkin.
A skewered tape flag can also be added to a faux pumpkin of any type. Here we did a marbled finish on a small artificial pumpkin by adding nail polish to a container of water. Dip in your pumpkin to get the effect in seconds.
