How To Use Travel SVG To Make A Sign
With a little painting, gluing, and Cricut cutting, you’ll have a cute sign to display in your home (or camper)! To learn more about using vinyl on wood, check out our Will Cricut Vinyl Stick to Wood? Which Type Should You Use? blog post.
Supplies Needed To Make Travel SVG Sign
- 6×14 unfinished pallet sign
- Unfinished wood truck cutout
- Unfinished wood camper cutout
- Chalk paint
- Paintbrushes
- Beacon Power Tac adhesive
- Vinyl (in any color)
- Transfer Tape
- Cricut machine (click here to see which is my favorite)
- Adventure Awaits file (download it above)
Step 1: Paint Wood Pieces
Start by painting all of your individual pieces, then set them aside and allow them to dry. You may need two coats on some of the wood pieces.
I actually mixed the color I painted the sign with white and added that to my camper. The colors are completely up to you, however.
Step 2: Cut Design From Vinyl
While your pieces dry, cut the travel SVG from vinyl. We are going to use the vinyl as a stencil, so don’t worry about what color it is.
Weed away all of the excess pieces.
Step 3: Place Vinyl On Wood
Then use transfer tape to put it in place on the sign.
My truck and camper are NOT glued down yet in the image below. I just have them in place to locate the lettering.
Step 4: Press Vinyl Down Onto Wood
Press the vinyl down well and remove the transfer tape.
Step 5: Add White Paint
Then, go over the entire sign with a really light coat of white paint. This gives the sign a rustic feel.
Go over the words first then continue over the entire sign.
Step 6: Peel Back Vinyl
Then peel back the vinyl from the lettering to reveal your design!
Step 7: Glue Camper And Truck To Wood Sign
Once all of your paint has dried, add the camper and truck with Beacon Power-Tac. Allow to dry completely before hanging.
Now your fun camper sign is complete! This is a great use for that free travel SVG file, but there are plenty of other potential uses as well!
Think about shirts, can koozies, vinyl lettering on your car, and so much more!
A travel SVG is a perfect way to celebrate Summer and all of those adventures you are going to have with your family!

FAQs About Travel SVG
If you have questions about our travel SVG I have answers for you! Please leave your question for me in the comments if you don’t see it already answered below!
Can I Use Any Cricut Machine For This Project?
Yes, you can! The Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore series, Cricut Joy, Cricut Joy Xtra, and Cricut Venture, can all work for this project.
The only thing to keep in mind is that each Cricut machine is different in regard to project size capabilities and the materials it can cut. So, depending on what project you have in mind, you might need to resize the SVG file or cut it out in a different material.

How Do You Make Wood Signs With Cricut Vinyl?
Unlike other Cricut vinyl projects where you apply the vinyl to a material, this project simply uses the vinyl words as a stencil. That allows you to basically just paint the wood and glue the camper and truck to the sign for an easy project.
To learn more about working with vinyl, check out my guide on How To Use Cricut Vinyl.
Can I Use A Hot Glue Gun Instead Of Beacon Power Tac Adhesive?
I would not recommend it for this project. Although hot glue would probably work, it won’t provide the strong, permanent adhesion that Beacon Power Tac Adhesive can offer.
