Make Your Own Unicorn Drink
Every unicorn drink needs a unicorn horn and my milkshake is no different. I actually made a candy horn using a few fruit chews and a wooden skewer.
Here’s What You’ll Need
- Soft fruit chew candies
- Wooden skewers
- Quart sized mason jar
- 3 cups ice cream
- Milk
- Whipped cream
- Neon food color (or any colors of your choice; liquid food color works best)
- Star sprinkles
- Colored mini marshmallows
- Original jumbo marshmallows
How to Make Your Unicorn Drink
Please note before we get started that this milkshake is intended to be shared among two or more people. This is definitely NOT a single serving!
Step 1: Microwave Fruit Chews
First, unwrap the fruit chew candies and put them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to get them soft. Be sure to put them on a plate first as they will stick!
Step 2: Make Long Strands
Next, start pulling the chews into long skinny strands with your hands. Use caution as they may be hot.
Step 3: Twist Into Cone for Unicorn Drink
After that, twist the strands together into a cone-like shape.
Step 4: Attach Unicorn Horn to Skewer
Now add your unicorn horn to the wooden skewer. It’s officially ready for your unicorn drink!
Step 5: Begin Unicorn Ears
It’s time for the unicorn ears! I used large marshmallows, pink sprinkles, and wood skewers.
Step 6: Cut Marshmallows
First cut the marshmallows in half, then shape them with your hands into an ear. Next, add to a wooden skewer and cut in half with scissors. You want to get a stick side!
Step 7: Coat in Sprinkles
After that, dip that cut, sticky edge into sprinkles to create a cute unicorn ear.
Step 8: Begin Your Milkshake
Once you have two ears and a horn, you are ready to make your unicorn milkshake.
Step 9: Mix Ingredients
First, start by mixing up the milkshake in a separate container. I mixed up two batches but you can do it all at once. Then just mix 3 cups of ice cream with enough milk to make it the consistency that you like. I used strawberry for half of mine and vanilla for the other half. You can mix together any milkshake that you love!
NOTE: Pink or white ice cream will probably work best with the food colors.
Step 10: Watch the Magic!
Now, fill the jar about half way with the milkshake. The colors start to blend and mix….magic!
Step 11: Even More Color
Then add a few more drips of food coloring and fill the jar up to the threads with your milkshake. The magic of the colors will continue to swirl inside of your jar.
Step 12: Top With Mini-Marshmallows
Next top off your unicorn drink with a handful of colorful marshmallows.
Step 13: Crown Your Unicorn Drink with Whipped Cream
Then add a crown of whipped cream.
Step 14: Even More Sprinkles
After that, add on star sprinkles just because!
Step 15: Cut Skewers
Then cut off your skewers to length, and add your horn and ears to the top.
Step 16: Enjoy Your Unicorn Drink!
Finally, this unicorn drink is ready to serve to anyone that you love!
Tips for Making the Best Unicorn Drink
- Who needs portions? The recipe for this portion does not matter, since the magic is in the food coloring! Adjust the portions depending on how many unicorn drinks you’re making (or how large of you’d like the servings).
- Kid-friendly fun! If you are serving this to your kids, now is the time to invite them into the kitchen. They will want to watch the magic happen!
- Add all the colors. Don’t forget to first drip some food coloring down the side of your jar as shown below. Add any colors that you like! Then, pour in the milkshake and watch the magic happen.
Who will you enjoy a unicorn milkshake with? You should definitely serve it with these unicorn cupcakes!
