How To Make Valentine Clothespin Craft
Are the kids giving out Valentine’s Day treats this year at school? If the answer is yes, then I have an adorable craft for you!
Close the top of your treat bags with this cute Valentine’s Day clothespin craft! This simple craft can be completed in no time at all, is customizable, and can even be made with your little ones.
Just follow the instructions below to use your Cricut machine for this project. However, if you don’t have a Cricut, keep reading as I have other ideas for ways to make this craft that doesn’t require any machine at all!
Supplies Needed To Make Valentine Clothespin Craft
- Clothespins
- Glitter tape
- Tape runner
- Googly eyes
- Foil cardstock
- Cricut machine
- Scoring stylus (optional)
- Scissors
Step 1: Draw Heart In Cricut Design Space
Draw a heart in Cricut Design Space the size you want for your wings.
OPTIONAL: Add a score line down the center of your heart and attach the two objects together. You do not need the score line to fold the hearts but it does help little ones fold these in the right location.
Step 2: Cut Foil Cardstock
Add your foil cardstock to a medium grip Cricut mat and cut as many hearts as you will need for your bugs.
Remember you will need two of these hearts per clothespin.
Step 3: Fold Hearts
Once cut, remove the hearts from the mat and fold each one in half slightly. You just want to fold it enough to give it some dimension when adding to your project.
Step 4: Cut Tape To Fit Clothespin
If your tape is wider than your clothespin, trim the glitter tape to size using a pair of scissors. Alternatively, you can use glitter vinyl for this portion and cut it to size with your Cricut as well.
Step 5: Add Tape To Clothespin
Peel the backing away from the tape and apply to your clothespin. Press down well.
Step 6: Glue Hearts To Clothespin
Add some adhesive to the center of your clothespin and add the hearts with the pointed end towards the clothespin. Hold them in place for a few seconds. I like to use an adhesive tape runner as it is not hot but sticks quickly. You can use any adhesive that you like.
Step 7: Glue Googly Eyes To Clothespin
Add adhesive to the end of the clothespin and put two googly eyes into place. Again, hold them a few seconds until the adhesive holds them into place.
Step 8: Add Clothespin To Treat Bag
Then just add your Valentine’s Day clothespin bugs to the top of a treat bag!
Make Valentine Clothespin Craft Without A Cricut
What are your options if you don’t have a Cricut machine? Try these ideas:
- Hand cut the hearts. They may a bit wonky but that is part of the fun!
- Use a Sizzix machine and some steel dies to cut the hearts instead.
- Have a paper punch in the shape of a heart? Try using that to make these hearts instead.
However you make them, you are sure to love the way these Valentine’s Day clothespin bugs look when they are on your treat bags!
Gather your supplies and use them to have a craft day with the kids. I know you will have fun making these cute bugs!
Add these clothespins to the top of some plain Valentine’s Day treat bags for something extra special! Plus, you can make some more DIY Valentines while you have your Cricut machine out!
Tips and Tricks for Valentine Clothespin Craft
Now that you’ve seen this Valentine clothespin craft, are you ready to make your own? Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure your project goes as smoothly as possible!
- Skip The Foil Cardstock – If you don’t have any foil cardstock on hand, you can still make this project! Instead, use regular cardstock in your favorite Valentine’s Day color.
- Change Up The Colors – For my clothespin bugs, I went with traditional Valentine’s Day colors. However, you can make these clothespin bugs in any color that you like!
- Break Out The Washi Tape – If you don’t have glitter tape or glitter vinyl, washi tape would be a fun substitute for this project!
